As a Test Manager
I want to delete any version of a test case
So that I can remove unnecessary versions of test cases and keep the library well maintained
It's done when I can delete any version of a test case
My v2 has been updated with most recent data, so now v3 is obsolete and I want to delete it.
For us, we run into situations where a new version is created in error. The ability to delete the latest would be a good first step.
Hi Deita,
Thanks for coming to this topic.
The impact comes from having test case versions with non-valid contents, and not being able to delete them. We end up having "noise" on the catalogs, and noise is never a good symptom. In our case, we considered deprecating such versions, but this doesn't seem to be a valid solution, since deprecated test cases (or versions) are things which were valid at some point but are no longer valid. But we are talking here of things which have never been valid, and we are forced to keep them. So yes, we end up deprecating them because we have no other option, but it is absolutely misleading.
In the case of test cases, for those we need to somehow delete because have been created wrongly for whatever reason, we go with the approach of archiving them. Deprecating them would also add noise to our test catalogs (the folders), so the Archive functionality is the one best fitting our need. But for test case versions we have no equivalence to the tests Archive functionality, and we have to keep such versions on the catalog. And having things which are not valid on a catalog has a direct impact on the quality of this catalog, surely.
That's why we find it essential to have this functionality. Not having it when managing test catalogs of few hundreds of tests may not be a huge headache, but it definitely is when you have to manage and maintain thousands of tests and their versions.
Hope you can reconsider adding this (much needed) functionality.
Thanks!
Hi Carolina,
Thanks for the feedback. Could you let me know how this impacting the quality of your test catalogues?
Any additional info is useful for us to better understand and prioritise the issue.
Thanks,
Dee
I find it surprising not to have this feature in place. To keep test catalogs in shape it is essential to be able to delete any data (including test versions) which may have been created by mistake. Not being able to undo these actions has a direct impact on the quality of the test catalogs.
